Editorial & rights policy

How we choose, cut and publish clips

Short clips travel fast and get shared without context. That is why every ViralCut clip follows the same rules, whatever the topic.

1. What we are allowed to publish

We only publish material from one of these sources:

  • Our own material — footage, text and sound we created ourselves.
  • Licensed or permitted content — the creator or rightsholder has given us permission, in writing.
  • Authorised campaigns — clipping campaigns in which the creator explicitly allows clips to be made and published under the campaign’s rules.

Crediting a source does not replace permission. If we cannot show that we are allowed to use something, we don’t post it. The same goes for music, images and voices inside a clip.

2. Context stays intact

We shorten, we don’t twist. A clip must say what the speaker actually meant. That means:

  • no quotes cut so they mean the opposite or something stronger than intended;
  • no misleading titles, hooks or captions;
  • no edits that put words or reactions in a different situation than the original.

3. Creators get credit

We name the original creator and source wherever that is allowed or required, usually in the caption or on screen. When a campaign or licence asks for a specific credit or link, we follow that exactly.

4. Our format

  • Vertical 9:16, 1080×1920 pixels, 30 frames per second.
  • A strong but correct hook in the first one or two seconds — no long intros.
  • English captions, at most two lines at a time, white with a little violet for emphasis.
  • Clear, audible speech; music only with a licence that covers it.
  • A subtle VC watermark, only when the campaign or licence allows it.
Before every post

Our 9-point publication check

No clip goes live until all nine are a clear yes.

  • Are we allowed to use and edit this material?
  • Does the licence or campaign allow this channel, country and account?
  • Is the quote free of misleading edits or a shift in context?
  • Is the original creator credited correctly?
  • Are the hook and captions free of errors?
  • Is the export correct, with a safe crop for every platform?
  • Is the audio clear and free of rights issues?
  • Have we followed any hashtag, call-to-action and submission rules?
  • Have we recorded the post URL and results?

5. Corrections and removal requests

Made a clip of your content and think we got something wrong, or that it isn’t covered by permission? Email hello.viralcut@gmail.com with a link to the clip and a short explanation. We review every request and correct or remove the clip where that is justified.

6. Measuring what works

For every clip we keep track of its source, permission, publication date and results after about 24 hours, 72 hours and 7 days. That tells us which moments are worth sharing — and helps us report honestly to creators we work with.
